WConference Question - Essay Example As such, there is a close relationship between human being and the art and hence the art always has a personal appealing to human. The art mostly reveals, through creativity, the side of the world that is interesting but we cannot see or experience in any other way except through art. Plato agrees with me by stating that it is ill advised for people to indulge in both mimetic and narrative representations in the place of art. As such, he demonstrated that arts are the best way that communicates a message from its originality. I am of the opinion that the art is an inseparable characteristic of the society. It is through art that the voiceless in the society can get a voice. Creativities that is demonstrated by the art explain the type of society the people are living. Every person in th society requires to study humanity and the art. This is because the only way to understand the norms and traditions of a given community is by embracing their arts and culture. A good example of how important the art is is the Nkisi sculpture that unites people in DRC. These arts are integral part of the society and hence humanities should be taught in school ion order to safeguard our

Exchange Rate Risk in the UAE Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 5000 words
Exchange Rate Risk in the UAE - Essay Example Due to the growing population in UAE, the construction activities for hotel, condominiums and commercial and entertainment infrastructure are increasing and directly contributing to growing interest rate of the currency. The most dominant factor of the financial market in the United Arab of Emirates is been Banking Sector, which is intermediate between common man and economy as it endows with the credit conveniences to the same. And hence the demand for the credit is increasing which is also causing to increase in the rate of currency, but contradictorily in point of fact this is harmful. Since there is an expansion in the financial markets, the banking sector are benefited the most and can maintain the profitably and exploit most in this market. The liberalization of the country demands the overseas banks to invest, seeing that United Arab of Emirates can come into sight of global economy. An increase in lending money or mortgaging activities from the banks, can risk the cost-cuttin g measure of the country, therefore banks should perimeter it. The growth of the economy is taken care by the government for improvement among the financial systems. The supervisory body (Emirates Securities and Commodities Authority) is been given the responsibility of Initial Public Offerings in January 2007. Global investors should be invited to expand the capital markets in United Arab of Emirates by getting rid from the board membership. As suggested there should be a legal format for all the financial markets which will lessen the arguments. The major drawback of United Arab of Emirates is that the unmethodical insurance segment, and to enhance the market segment, this segment should be privatized. The high standard of living, productivity has caused the inflation in the economy of the United Arab of Emirates. US interests are not hooked up with flexible monetary policies. The high oil prices causes inflation and leads to major problem in the economy of United Arab of Emirates . Hence monitory policies should be independent, not confined to the interest rate of the compared currency and more effective. The cause of rise in the inflation was due to the rising cost of accommodation. This will lead to threat in cost of living which can cause the local economy. As a result this should be stopped. UAE Currency Markets The US dollar and the United Arab of Emirates dirham are hooked up at the rate of 3.6710 and similarly the Great Britain Pound (GBP) shifts directly with the US Dollar as well as AED. Source: http://www.dubaiselect.com/dubai_property_services/financial-services/the-currency/As shown in the above chart, GBP/AED moved from high in May of 6.9860 to a low of 6.6398 in June which on an AED 1,000,000 property would be an increased cost of 7,464 in less than two months. The currency fluctuations create instability in the financial markets which would affect in decision making for the acquisition of the property. This also avoids in the need of the development. But as soon as this hook is been broken between the US Dollar and AED, the instability in exchange rate and interest rate would generate a necessity amongst the short term and long term risks proficiently. The trading countries like Australia, Africa and other Arab countries, deal United Arab of Emirates with the US Dollar and thus major of trading or imports is done in US dollars. Hooking up with US dollars is not advantageous for the United Arab of

Unemployment and Labor in the Republic of Moldova Essay Example for Free
Unemployment and Labor in the Republic of Moldova Essay There are a lot of problems created by the unemployment as poverty, migration, human traffic, and crime and shadow economy. Of course, unemployment is a permanent phenomenon in any economy, because frictional and structural unemployment exists every time and doesnââ¬â¢t make unemployment rate to be equal to zero, and in this essay Iââ¬â¢d like to offer the analysis of the specific of unemployment and labour forces in Republic of Moldova. Firstly, I propose to analyze the unemployment rate, activity rate and employment rate. Secondly, to describe any characteristics of labour forces in my country. And after that to analyze data about the migrant workers, who work or looking for a job abroad. In general my goal is to demonstrate the evolution of unemployment and labor and to determine any problems, which the national economy met during the years after the Soviet Union. First of all I want to note that the definition of unemployment according to International Labor Organization (ILO) has been used in Republic of Moldova only from 1998, before that year the unemployment was equal to the number of official registries unemployed population. It makes impossible to compare the unemployment before 1998 and unemployment after this year. Table 1: Unemployment rate, Activity rate and Employment rate Source: National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Moldova Trend line on the Graph 1 shows us that in general unemployment rate decreases, but at the same time activity rate (Graph 2) and employment rate (Graph 3) decreases too. It means that number of population, who are working in the national economy, was decreasing during the period from 1998 to 2010 years. Also itââ¬â¢s important to note that the number of economically active people has reduced from 1809 thousand people to 1235 thousand people and itââ¬â¢s 547 thousand people, it equal to 16% of average total population in that period of time and the number of people employed in the economy reduced from 1642 thousand people in 1998 to 1143 thousand people in 2010 and itââ¬â¢s 499 thousand people, but the total population has reduced on 89 thousand people. It means that the weight of economically active and employed population in the national economy in total population reduced. I think that the solution of that problem is an attraction of international investments or entering in the market of international companies which are able to organize modern management and improve the competitiveness of national goods and services. The RM has the positive experience of this kind of collaboration. For example ââ¬Å¾Draexlmaier Automotiveâ⬠created 3000 of the new jobs in one of the free economic zones. Graph 1: Unemployment rate Source: National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Moldova Graph 2: Activity rate Source: National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Moldova Graph 3: Employment rate Source: National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Moldova Graph 4: Employment population by occupations Source: National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Moldova Graph 5: Employment population by areas of the economy Source: National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Moldova The Graph 4 shows us that the weight of skilled agricultural and fishery workers reduced. Analyzing the Graph 5 it is possible to make a conclusion that the weight of people who work in agriculture area was reducing too in the last 13 years. Also itââ¬â¢s important to note that the weight of the people who work in Industry and Construction areas is not high, but the weight of people who work in Services area was increasing during last years. In my opinion this trend means that Moldavian commodities are not competitive. Another argument of this statement is that the weight of services in structure of GDP was increasing during last years as it is shown in Graph 6. Graph 6: Structure of GDP Source: National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Moldova Another important characteristic of labor is the level of education. As it is possible to see in Graph 7 the weight of workers who has higher education was increasing from 11.9% to 23% or from 181 thousand people to 263 thousand people. I think it is positive trend, which shows the development of labor during last years. Graph 7: Employed population by the level of education Source: National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Moldova In the end Iââ¬â¢d like to demonstrate data about the migrantââ¬â¢s workers, economically active people who leave their own families in Moldova and go for looking for a job abroad. According to official data there are more than 300 thousand people from the RM, but according to another data there are one million of Moldavians workers in foreign countries. The main part of migrant workers from the RM prefers to work in the Russian Federation and Italy as it shown in the Table 2. Table 2: Population aged 15 years and over, working or looking for work abroad Source: National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Moldova Table 3: Cash transfers from migrant workers According to the balance of payments cash transfers from the migrant workers were more than $ 1 billion in 2008. Other data are shown in the Table 3. This money flow is the valuable injection in the national economy. One of the biggest problems is the reducing of the employed population on approximately one half of a million of people, just those who has found a job in the national economy in general works in services area, because Moldavian commodities arenââ¬â¢t competitive on foreign and sometimes domestic markets. Lots of people, who havenââ¬â¢t found a job which could satisfy their needs and wants, travel in foreign countries looking for a job, after that they make cash transfers which are very important injection in the national economy. In my opinion labor in the Republic of Moldova is developing, about it says that the weight of employed population who has higher education was increased, at the same time the fact that activity rate and employment rate were falling during last years and it may create dangerous effects on economy as a whole. The solution of this problem is to put efforts to attract foreign investments.

Great Conversations :: essays papers
Great Conversations In Robert M. Hutchins essay, â⬠Preface to The Great Conversationâ⬠he discusses how he believes Great Books are the finest creations. According to Hutchins, Great Books are the books written in the Western civilization. Robert Hutchins believes reading these books will help everyone morally, intellectually and spiritually. In the fifth paragraph Hutchins state, ââ¬Å"the rising generation has been deprives of its birthright: adults have come to lead lives comparatively rich in material comforts and very poor in moral, intellectual, and spiritual tone.â⬠Hutchins believes this because this generation isnââ¬â¢t reading the Great books, to such on the materialistic thing in life. I disagree with Hutchins. I donââ¬â¢tââ¬â¢ believe everyone should read Great books. I disagree, everyone opinion of a great book is different. I disagree with Hutchins belief, who is he to define Great books? I donââ¬â¢t think reading the books he describes in his essay will help our generation do better or worse. I think itââ¬â¢s up to our generation to define Great books. Our generation s is diverse. Everyone learning style and taste is different. However I do belief education is the key to our success, but the reading the books he describes in his essay will not do the trick. Our generation and society isnââ¬â¢t lacking because we arenââ¬â¢t reading these so-called Great books, itââ¬â¢s lacking for varies individual reasons. Knowledge is gained through several daily activities. Reading these Great books is essential. I would consider the works of Terry McMillan, Alex Walker and Maya Angelou to be Great books. These authors talk about issues that affect me, my peers, and my community in todayââ¬â¢s society. Reading the books Hutchins described help them overcome trials in their day.

An Analysis for the Play Fences Essay
The story line seemed melodramatic throughout the play. The author (August Wilson) has laid the ground work of many themes throughout the play. The play deals with Race, Men and their masculinity, Morality, Dreams and hopes of everyone involved, Family, Duty, Betrayal and Dissatisfaction. The play begins with Troy and his best friend Bono entering the yard chatting as they usually do coming home from work as garage collectors for their company. Every Friday is payday for Troy and Bono and one can usually find these two enjoy drinking down at Taylors (the local watering hole). Troy seems to be upset due to the fact that he tries to rise above ââ¬Å"just being a garbage manâ⬠and seeks to become a driver of the garbage truck. Troy has made a formal complaint to his boss (Mr. Rand) and asks ââ¬Å"Why you got the white mens driving and the colored lifting? â⬠Troy recognized that he has just as much of a right and ability as the ââ¬Å"white menâ⬠he is working with, and can drive the garbage truck just as well as any of them. Although, Troy didnââ¬â¢t realize it, he was actually leading the way (in his own right) for black men and woman everywhere. But this wasnââ¬â¢t the only issue that Troy is dealing with. Troy has been cheating on his wife Rose with his mistress Alberta and decides to discuss this with his friend Jim Bono (often mostly referred to by his last name Bono in the book). But Rose appears to always be on Troy about building the ââ¬Å"Fenceâ⬠around the yard. This later on in the play seems to have a profound underlying tone to more than just the literal meaning of the word. Troy, although a good man at heart, he seems to be struggling with an issue of facing death.. Troy seems to have his hands full within the play. With every situation, Troy seems to describe them in the terms of baseball. Since Troy was robbed of a potential a professional baseball career because of his race and has become bitter because of it. It seems that Troy has a lot of ââ¬Å"Fencesâ⬠to mend, not only the physical kind, but the relationships he has with his wife, his sons Lyons and Cory (mostly). Troy also deals (and is responsible for) with his brother Gabriel, who received a serious head injury during the war and hasnââ¬â¢t been the same since. Troyââ¬â¢s son Cory tells his father that he has a chance to be scouted for a recruiter from the University of North Carolina for its football team. But since Troy feels that Cory should be concentrating on working at the local A&P supermarket and his studies and leave football alone. One can understand as to maybe why Troy feels that his son should work and focus on school instead of football. Since Troy was disappointed because of his lack of a professional baseball career (because of his color), he did not want to see his son receive the same kind of heartbreak he had suffered. Troy, by doing this, he is holding his son back (whether he realizes it or not) from possibly having a better life than what he had or currently has. Troy seems somewhat jealous of his son Cory and really bitter when it comes to sports. One of the main themes of the play seems to come when Troy has to tell his wife Rose (coming clean) that he is going to be a father again. Rose becomes upset and wants to know why Troy couldnââ¬â¢t ââ¬Å"stay in her bedâ⬠instead of going elsewhere. Troy attempt to rationalize what he has done, says that he is only trying to feel good about himself and that he hasnââ¬â¢t done so in a long time. When Rose has to explain to Troy that she received a call from the hospital informing her that, Alberta died giving birth to his daughter, Raynell. Rose, being the good woman that she is, accepts Raynell in to her family and agrees to raise her. Troy then comes to battle with Cory, when he attempts to step over his father and enter the house. Cory is then told that he no longer lives there, and was being kicked out of the house forever. Cory states to Troy that he doesnââ¬â¢t need anything from him and can take of himself. Since Troy had to deal with being on his own since he was fourteen years old, his son can do the same thing (Cory is a little older, 17 yrs. old). Troy, throughout the play is always speaking about, how he will be ready for ââ¬Å"Grim Reaper and his sickleâ⬠and will not go down without a fight (which he often brags about beating death when he was younger). Troy just prior to his death (and finding out about the death of his mistress) Troy: ââ¬Å"All rightâ⬠¦ Mr. Deathâ⬠¦. Iââ¬â¢m gonna take and build me a fence around this yard. See? Iââ¬â¢m gonna build me a fence around what belongs to me. And then I want you to stay on the other side. See? You stay over there until youââ¬â¢re ready for me. â⬠So, this could be another underlying theme that Troy is always wrestling with a force much larger than he is and is always taunting death by saying ââ¬Å"Then you [Death] come on. Bring your army. Bring your sickle. Bring your wrestling clothesâ⬠. The last time we actually see or hear from Troy is in Act II scene 4 when he says ââ¬Å"I canââ¬â¢t taste nothing. Helluljah! (Probably misspelled on purpose) I canââ¬â¢t taste nothing no more. (Troy assumes a batting posture and begins to taunt Death, the fastball on the outside corner. ) Come on! Itââ¬â¢s between you and me now! Come on! Anytime you want! Come on! I be ready for youâ⬠¦.. but I ainââ¬â¢t gonna be easy. At this point, Troy realizes that he is dying (heart attack). At the beginning of the following scene, the reader learns that Troy has died and everyone (except Cory) is preparing to attend Troyââ¬â¢s funeral. But as the story starts to end, both of Troyââ¬â¢s sons, Lyons and Cory are talking with each other and tells one another how each one is doing. Lyons is finishing up his prison sentence and Cory is a Corporal in the Marine Corps. The two of then begin to sing the song that their dad used to sing about a dog name Blue. The story can take the reader through a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Great story about the trials and tribulations of a man and the world around him. According to Wade Bradford from About. com, he states: Arguably August Wilsonââ¬â¢s most renowned work, Fences explores the life and relationships of the Maxson family. This moving drama was written in 1983 and earned Wilson his first Pulitzer Prize. The protagonist, Troy Maxon is a restless trash-collector and former baseball athlete. Though deeply flawed, he represents the struggle for justice and fair treatment during the 1950s. Troy also represents human natureââ¬â¢s reluctance to recognize and accept social change. In the playwrightââ¬â¢s setting description, symbols connected to his character can be found: the house, the incomplete fence, the porch, and the makeshift baseball tied to a tree branch (Bradford, Wade 2011). Definition and Examples of Kinship Terms
Kinship terms are words used in a speech community to identify relationships between individuals in a family (or a kinship unit). This is also called kinship terminology. A classification of persons related through kinship in a particular language or culture is called a kinship system. Examples and Observations Bailey was the greatest person in the world. And the fact that he was my brother, and I had no sisters to share him with, was such good fortune that it made me want to live a Christian life just to show God that I was grateful.(Maya Angelou, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. Random House, 1969)Two years later a note arrived from one of her daughters relating that Tata had died in childbirth. It was with one of Tatas sons whod moved to Omaha that Rocco went to live when he was eighteen. And when, six years later, hed moved to Ohio with a cousins cousins guarantee of a steel-mill job, which was never to materialize, hed promised himself this single luxury, once two or three years of careful saving had passed: to go to Niagara Falls.(Salvatore Scibona, The End. Graywolf Press, 2008)My Mom was an illegal alien, born out of wedlock in Mexico . . .. Once I told a neighbor her husband wasnt my real father. I didnt know I wasnt supposed to say this. I was sorry I embarrassed her. I didnt even care about my real father much, only saw him a couple of days a year, but the only times my mothers husbands were fathers were when others made that assumption.(Dagoberto Gilb, Mi Mommy. Grove Press, 2003) Lexicalized Categories Some of the clearest examples of lexicalized categories are words used to refer to people who are members of the same family, or kinship terms. All languages have kinship terms (e.g. brother, mother, grandmother), but they dont all put family members into categories in the same way. In some languages, the equivalent of the word father is used not only for male parent, but also for male parents brother. In English, we use the word uncle for this other type of individual. We have lexicalized the distinction between the two concepts. Yet we also use the same word (uncle) for female parents brother. That distinction isnt lexicalized in English, but it is in other languages.(George Yule, The Study of Language, 5th ed. Cambridge University Press, 2014) Kinship Terms in Sociolinguistics One of the attractions that kinship systems have for investigators is that these factors are fairly readily ascertainable. You can, therefore, relate them with considerable confidence to the actual words that people use to describe a particular kin relationship. There may be certain difficulties, of course. You can ask a particular person what he or she calls others who have known relationships to that person, for example, that personââ¬â¢s father (Fa), or motherââ¬â¢s brother (MoBr), or motherââ¬â¢s sisterââ¬â¢s husband (MoSiHu), in an attempt to show how individuals employ various terms, but without trying to specify anything concerning the semantic composition of those terms: for example, in English, both your fatherââ¬â¢s father (FaFa) and your motherââ¬â¢s father (MoFa) are called grandfather, but that term includes another term, father. You will find, too, in English that your brotherââ¬â¢s wifeââ¬â¢s father (BrWiFa) cannot be referred to directly; brotherââ¬â¢s wifeââ¬â¢s father (or sister-in-lawââ¬â¢s father) is a circumlocution rather than the kind of term that is of interest in kinship terminology.(Ronald Wardhaugh, An Introduction to Sociolinguistics, 6th ed. Wiley-Blackwell, 2010) More Difficulties [T[he English kinship term father is defined to imply a particular biological relationship. Yet in an actual case the term may be used when the biological relationship is not in fact present.(Austin L. Hughes, Evolution and Human Kinship. Oxford University Press, 1988) Kinship Terms in Indian English It is not uncommon to hear the term cousin sister or cousin brother, a common mistake that Indian speakers of English make since they are unable to say just cousin, which would be too vague since it does not distinguish gender.(Nandita Chaudhary, Mothers, Fathers, and Parents. Semiotic Rotations: Modes of Meanings in Cultural Worlds, ed. by Sunhee Kim Gertz, Jaan Valsiner, and Jean-Paul Breaux. Information Age Publishing, 2007)With Indian roots myself, I was, perhaps, more aware of the power of family here than in other Asian countries where it was no less suffocating or strong. . . . . I was amused to find that the Indians had smuggled into English such terms as co-brother (to designate ones sister-in-laws brother) and cousin brother (to denote the sex of a first cousin, and, better yet, to draw the cousin as close as a brother). In some of the local languages, the terms were even more precisely defined, with separate words for a fathers elder and younger brothers and special terms for uncles on ones mothers and ones fathers side, as well as words to distinguish between mothers sisters and uncles wives, blood uncles and uncles by marriage. Though India had a hunger for absolutes, it swarmed with relatives; before long, everyone came to seem related to everyone else.(Pico Iyer, Video Night in Kathmandu: And Other Reports from the Not-So-Far East. Vintage, 1989)

Architect Louis Sullivan s Views On Architecture - 966 Words
Since the dawn of Modern Architecture, the use of ornamentations on structures has been questioned for its purpose. Many buildings, from Greek or Roman temples, to our modern-day skyscraper can be recognized as having ornamentation. Mass and proportion have been cited as being the priority of a design. Architect Louis Sullivan believes ornamentation should have a purpose and be integrated the relationship of the buildingââ¬â¢s structure. The Hollyhock Houseââ¬â¢s harmonious use of ornamentation does not distract from the mass and proportions of the building and therefore aligns with Architect Louis Sullivanââ¬â¢s views on ornaments in architecture. Before finding out what Louis Sullivanââ¬â¢s views were, we must look at why his theory would be able to hold such weight. Born on September 3, 1856 in Boston Massachusetts, Louis Sullivan was considered by many to be one of the fathers of modern architecture in America (Louis Sullivan). Sullivan began his career as an archi tect when he partnered with Architect Dankmar Adler, producing 100 building collaborations in their 14-year partnership (Louis Sullivan). Chicago was seen as the proving grounds for an era of architecture we now call ââ¬Å"Modern Architecture.â⬠Sullivan helped lead this era with his involvement in the architecture group called Chicago School. This group of architects were pushing the envelope on what is possible to be created with modern materials (Chicago). They paved the way for the development of skyscrapers with theShow MoreRelatedFrank Lloyd Wright s Life, Career, Influences And Impact On The Way We See American Architecture1500 Words à |à 6 PagesFrank Lloyd Wright is Americasââ¬â¢ best known and most influential architect and arguably the greatest architect of the 20th century from anywhere in the world.
